State Academic Standards:

Use commutative and associative properties of multiplication

Introduce multiplication and division facts for 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9

Use properties of 0 and 1 to multiply and divide

Relate multiplication and division using arrays and fact families

Objectives:

Students will demonstrate understanding of multiplication

Students will demonstrate commutative property of multiplication.

Students will demonstrate multiplication using arrays, tables, and skip counting

Unit 8 – Chapter 20 & 21
Prerequisite Background Knowledge:

Students can skip count by 2, 5, and 10

Materials and Handouts:

Cube Trains

Focus Statement:

Today you and I are going to model how to multiply by three using three methods.

1.      Skip Counting

2.      Arrays

3.      Fact Tables

Procedure:

Students will complete worksheets in the book using the Learn, Guided Practice and Practice format.

Students and teacher will each have a copy of the book.

Assessment and Practice:

Teacher will ask students to use blocks to show different ways to multiply and write them in a chart.

Key standards review and chapter review test.
